LUKOFAS - dispersion plastic plasters

Characteristics

All of these Lukofas plasters are designed for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Lukofas is a pasty material that is applied onto previously prepared construction surfaces. When dry, these plasters form a structural layer whose size is comparable with that of a grain of sand.

Surfaces with a Lukofas finish are resistant against abrasion, impacts, climatic conditions, and chemicals. They are steam-permeable; i.e. they allow for active breathing. They are washable, elastic, and color-fast. Drying takes approximately 24 hours at 20 °C and a relative air humidity of 50%.

During drying, the plaster should be protected from rain. In the event of high air humidity, the time of drying can extend to several days.

They adhere to a number of surfaces such as concrete, porous concrete, gypsum board, stucco, traditional core-wall plasters, cement chipboards, Formica, etc. Lukofas plasters are easy to process, and with minimum losses. They can be applied both manually and mechanically.

The minimum service life of surfaces finished with Lukofas dispersion plasters is 20 years, subject to proper application.

Lukofas – podkladový nátěr (Lukofas - leveler) is a penetration coat that regulates the absorption capacity of the base, secures the good adhesive capacity of the plaster, optical background and the flawless formation of a structure.

Lukofas zpevňovač (Lukofas hardener) is a water-soluble dispersion agent designed for the deep hardening of the base before applying dispersion plasters

Technological Method

Getting a Workplace Ready

All types of plasters are applied at the minimum temperature of both the base and the air of +5 that must not exceed +25 °C. These climatic conditions must be in place during the drying of the plaster, i.e. for a minimum of 12 hours. All the surfaces of hole filling must be protected – prior to the application procedure – from contamination with plaster by means of appropriate covering aids (framed foil, removable varnish, removable adhesive tapes). Applies tools and hands must be washed while working as well as after it is finished.

Bases:

The bases to be finished with dispersion plasters Lukofas must be dry, clear of dust, greasy stains, impurities and iron objects. If these objects cannot be removed, they have to be covered with a solvent-type, anticorrosive paint. Silicate porous materials must be carbonized, properly hardened (for at least 4 - 6 weeks), and have to have prescribed coherence. The surface of the base must be smooth, and free of projections and crevices.

If a base is not adherent enough it must be hardened with a coat of Lukofas hardener, which is a special water emulsion designed for deep hardening. This hardener is applied as supplied; i.e. without being diluted.

If need be, unevenness of a surface treated with dry Lukofas hardener (4 - 6 hours) is corrected with a leveler. This leveler is designed to stabilize a glass-textile grill when it is used for overlaying joints and crevices. When the leveler has dried (at least 48 hours), the base is then ready to be applied with a plaster base coat and for the spreading of a plaster material.

Thin - set special leveler (white) by the Custom company is a dry blend which is to be mixed with pure water at an approximate ratio of 0.24 liter to 1 kg (i.e. 6 l of water is diluted with the contents of a 25 kg bag) to make up a pasty material. Upon mixing, let the blend stand for 10 minutes and stir it again. The leveler is applied with a stainless float. The amount of leveler depends on the extent of surface unevenness.

Consumption:

Lukofas hardener : 0.2-0.4 kg/m2 (i.e. 1 kg of preparation covers 3 to 5 m2)

Leveler: 0.25-0.50 kg/m2 (i.e. 1 kg of preparation covers 2 to 4 m2)

Leveler

Before applying structural plaster, the prepared base must be coated with Lukofas leveler base, which regulates the absorption capacity of the base and ensures good adhesion properties, as well as the optical background. It is applied in the same hue as Lukofas plaster by means of a roller or brush. Drying takes at least 12 hours.

Consumption: 0.25 kg/m2 (i.e. 1 kg of preparation covers 4 m2)

Application of individual types of plasters

Caution

Stir a plaster container properly before use!

It is advised not to carry out outside applications during rainy weather, fog, strong wind, or intensive sunlight during very warm weather.

Manual application

Lukofas – 1 mm plaster

Work is to be completed in due technological order, after finishing all tin smithing and painting operations.

It is applied after the drying of the plaster base, Lukofas leveler (12 hours), by a roller, by spreading, or by spraying.

When working with a roller, a plasticized look can be achieved by using different roller surfaces. Lukofas - 1 mm plaster is the only product to be diluted at a maximum amount of 0.3 l per one packaging (30 kg). When application is completed by spreading, follow the same method as described with the two preceding types of Lukofas plasters.

Approximate consumption: 1.5 kg/m2 (i.e. one packaging covers 20 m2).

Lukofas - 2 and 3 mm plasters

Surface treatment is completed in due technological order after finishing the base coats on floors, and after completing all painting work. It is applied on the dry plaster base of Lukofas leveler (at least 12 hours).

Lukofas – plaster is applied by stainless tools in a layer that is 2 or 3 mm thick, which corresponds to a grain size. It is spread from bottom to top using the material directly from the stirred transportation containers. When partially dry (after about 15 minutes at 25 °C), the surface structure is modified in a selected way that is not to be changed while working, e.g. by circle moves of a float, or by a PVC polisher. Larger ‘grains’ create a typical structure surface. When working on large-size walls, the entire surface has to be completed at one time, i.e. without interruptions.

Consumption:

Lukofas – 2 mm plaster – about 3.0 kg/m2 (about 10 m2 per one packaging)

Lukofas – 3 mm plaster – about 4.0 kg/m2 (about 7.5 m2 per one packaging)

Lukofas – floated plaster

Surface treatment is completed in due technological order after finishing the base coats on floors, and after completing all painting work. It is applied on the dry plaster base of Lukofas leveler (at least 12 hours).

Lukofas – floated plaster se is applied by stainless tools in a layer that is 2 mm thick,. It is spread from bottom to top using the material directly from the stirred transportation containers. The last stroke of a plate should always go from top to bottom to polish tiny stones and to dress the base for floating. When partially dry (after about 5 to 10 minutes), the surface structure is lightly floated with a dry PVC floater to unify the look of the plaster across the entire surface. The surface should never be devilled. When working on a building wall do not interrupt the application until the whole wall is spread and floated.

Consumption: about 2.5 kg/m2 (about 12 m2 per one packaging)

Mechanical application:

All types of the Lukofas plasters can be applied by means of a plaster spray gun (for instance, RUO1UF manufactured by ESTABLISHMENT, Ledeč nad Sázavou) and a compressor with a capacity of 205 l/min. The spraying can be a single or two-phase process, depending on the required roughness of the final structure. The two-phase application (the second layer is always applied after the first one dries thoroughly) imitates the look of sprayed birch paint.

The consumption of this material during mechanical application to achieve a specific required structure is about 25 % lower than during manual application.

Servicing

A service technician, as well as employees of the Commercial-Trading Services of Lučební závody a.s. Kolín, can provide all information on the application of Lukofas structural plasters. They are also able to train other employees and to deal with topical problems related to the application of plasters right on the working site.

A detailed information material entitled ‘Technological principles of the use of Lukofas dispersion facade structural plasters’ is drawn for application companies. This material will be sent to you upon request.
